mpi-default-dev software package provides Standard MPI development files (metapackage), you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install mpi-default-dev
mpi-default-dev is installed in your system.
Make ensure the mpi-default-dev package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep mpi-default-dev *
You will get with mpi-default-dev package name, version, architecture and description in a table
